The UK Government has invested $2.2 million in the development of two solar plants in Rural Kenya, via a private infrastructure development group known as Infraco Africa.

Hamitt Baldwin, the UK's minister for Africa, announced the engagement by Infraco Africa to install two solar plants in Samburu and Transmara, Kenya. This was made known in London. The solar plants will each possess a capacity of 10MWAC, to supply more people electricity at a cheaper rate.

The UK's Department for International Development's Transforming Energy Access Programme, has been able to reduce carbon emission to two tonnes and enrich the lives of 3.2 million low income earners. It has also invested $359 million in clean energy in public and private sectors.

In a statement, Harriette Baldwin said, "Transforming Energy Access is using the UK's expertise in technology and finance to ensure electricity is spread all over Africa and help tackle one of the world's greatest challenges, 'climate change.' The UK's government involvement in clean energy and waste reduction for people and businesses will help millions of people across Africa. It's a win for the developing world and UK."

The installed solar plants at Sambura and Transmara will greatly contribute to attaining clean energy in Kenya. In 2018, the Government reaffirmed its aspiration  to accomplish Universal Electricity Access by 2022 and to keep on enhancing the power sector.
