Avocados Seeds- What Scientists Discovered

Avocados are rich in vitamins and minerals and they are a great source of fats. Most people are only interested in eating the fruit pulp and discard the seeds. But are the Avocado seeds really useful?

In 2016, after discovering this Avocado-derived compound as dye, Gregory Ziegler and Joshua Lambert established the company 'Persia Naturals' that presently distribute it as a natural food colour additive.

Recently, Ziegler, Lambert and colleagues are trying to know whether they can put this same compound to use as an anti-inflammatory substance. If their theory works out, the compound could help treat cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

In a new study paper, which features in the open-access journal Advances in Food Technology and Nutritional Science, the researchers report that, ancient local South American have used Avocado seeds to treat inflammatory diseases.

"Ethno-pharmacological studies of the Aztec and Maya cultures have reported the use of decoctions of Avocado seeds for the treatment of parasitic and mycotic diseases, diabetes, inflammation and gastrointestinal irregularity", they noted.

Researchers said that Avocado seeds are very useful because they are rich in polyphenols. Polyphenols are natural substances with an antioxidant effect, which can help fight against infections at the cellular level.
