Baby Wraapped In Nylon Bag Discovered

A baby wrapped in a nylon bag was discovered yesterday behind the office of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and Badarawa Primary School Healthcare Center in Kaduna North Local Government Area. The child was left with a note written in Hausa language.

In the letter, the mother wrote that she left the child because her parents were very strict and that it was not a deliberate act. She asked for forgiveness and encourage anyone who read the letter to pray on her behalf.

MalamYusuf Abubakar, a member of the civilian JTF who picked up the baby said the child was discovered at about 10pm on Thursday.

"Some persons noticed something moving in a black nylon bag. They made known their discovery to us and we immediately went to the scene to investigate.

"Upon inspection, we saw a baby girl wrapped in nylon bag with her head protruding out. There were some clothes in the bag and a letter written in Hausa which we assume was written by the mother.

"We disclosed this to the immediate traditional ruler which is the Sarkin of the area who responded by sending the child to the Hakini of Kawo who then handed over the  child to the Kaduna State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development."

In addition, "We saw a man and a woman looking out for the child but they took to their heels when they saw us coming, I believe they know something about the abandoned child."

He noted that people have been coming to adopt the child but they refer them to the ministry because they are in charge of the child at present.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Kaduna Sate, Hayiya Hafsat Baba, who received the child, said, "The next step is that we shall take record of the child and take her to the hospital for check up and immunisation.
