NASA's Latest Spacecraft Is About To Land

NASA's robotic spacecraft launched into space is about landing in Mars, after sailing 5248 million km on a six-month voyage through deep space. The robotic lander Insight was due to touch down on the surface of the red planet at about 8pm GMT.

The robotic lander Insight launched in May from California, will stop for 16 minutes for the dust around its landing site to settle, before disc-shaped solar panels are outstretched like wings to generate power to the space craft.

The mission control team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) near Los Angeles are expecting to receive real-time confirmation of the spacecraft's arrival data relayed by a pair of minute satellites that were launched along with the Insight (spacecraft).
