IBM researcher Stefan Harrer is developing a new and novel means of monitoring a person's brain so as to forecast epileptic seizures. Working together with neurologists from the University of Melbourne and the firms from Australian branch, Harrer is constructing a computer system that he says is similar to an artificial brain.
According to him, this computer will be focused on analyzing a real human brain. They have developed a software application that will interpret human brain waves by employing a neural network. A patient's brain waves are fed into the neural network which is then analyzed by the IBM proprietary hardware.
The said hardware is an experimental IBM chip called TrueNorth, this chip has been constructed with an architecture that help capture the human brain, which explains why it makes a great effective neural network.
