Avoid Putting Underwear To Bed, Microbiologist Warns Women

Dr. Tony Mbume, a clinical microbiologist on Sunday advised females to stop sleeping with their panties on in order to keep the Virgina area dry throughout the night.

He also urged ladies to stop wearing tight jeans, synthetic panties in addition to leggings, to prevent infections.

In a statement, he said that, the majority of Nigerian females wear synthetic pants, leggings and tight jeans with the intention of fashion, without taking into consideration the health effects.

Dr. Mbume, who works with CIAGIN Medical Laboratory, Oke-Afa, Isolo, has made News Agency in Lagos to be aware of the situation. He told them that  underclothing manufactured from latex, nylon or polyester, artificial materials encourages moisture and heat, which makes the Vagina to become easily infected.

According to him, “Synthetic panties can lead to the overheating of the vagina area and this can occasionally cause burning sores, irritation as well as triggering blisters.

Dr. Mbume stated that vaginal burning and irritation are generally accompanied by discharge and bad smell.

The microbiologist further said that  such infections could cause great harmful effects if left untreated, as it can lead to infertility due to destruction of the reproductive organs.

Dr. Mbume then advised that cotton underwear should be worn by ladies as it help to ventilate and eradicate infections,  adding that putting on cotton underwear helps to keep the vagina dry.

“Use cotton menstrual pads too. Cotton absorbs excess moisture and gets rid of buildup heat from the vagina area. It's the only material that can become tougher whenever wet and it is easily sterilised after use."

Mbume advised that the vagina area should be protected from any kind of infections.
